KHRP Patron Michael Mansfield QC to Publish New Book
ImageKHRP Patron Michael Mansfield QC will launch his new book, Memoirs of a Radical Lawyer, at this year’s Edinburgh Festival in August, with publication to follow on 7 September.

Michael Mansfield has represented defendants in criminal trials, appeals and inquiries in some of the most controversial legal cases the country has seen. This has included work on behalf of the Birmingham Six, the family of Stephen Lawrence, the family of Jean Charles de Menezes, and Turkish and Kurdish exiles.
In this book, he discusses many of his cases, revealing his motivations, meticulous approach to forensic science, cross examination techniques, the political dimensions and his emotional reactions with clarity, subtlety and charm. Interspersed with personal anecdotes and recollections, this insightful book is liberally laced with his quirky brand of anarchic humour.

‘The process of writing this book has reinforced for me the absolute necessity to heed the lessons of the past, lest we are constrained to repeat them in chillingly similar, monotonous detail,’ he said. ‘Increasingly this has become a memoir of the “here and now”, looking back, as it were, on the present. I hope the book will be a form of prism for the future.’

The launch of Michael Mansfield’s book (written with Yvette Vanson) will take place in the RBS Main Theatre at the Edinburgh Festival at 4pm on Monday 31 August 2009. In addition, Michael will hold talks and book signings around the country on the following dates:
