KHRP seminars at the European Parliament (March 23, 2011)

KHRP will be holding a seminar on Freedom of Expression and the Media across the Kurdish Regions at the European Parliament on the 23rd March from 1pm-2:30pm. The seminar is part of a series that seeks to promote awareness and discussion of human rights issues in the Kurdish regions of Turkey, Iran, Syria, and Iraq. KHRP aims to bring key members of the European Parliament together to discuss areas of concern around human rights, the environment and regional security in the Kurdish Regions and its implications for the EU.

The seminars are designed to help create a different way of viewing the Kurds and help reframe the current dialogue on the regions, not just a focus on the conflict between armed opposition and government; or how bad governments in the region are, but rather on what is happening and how it can change.

This seminar will include a presentation by Mehmet Sanar Yurdatapan who is a KHRP patron who will discuss the spectrum of issues across Turkey in relation to media freedom, including new media.
