Condemnation at attacks against Special Iraqi Criminal Tribunal defence lawyers Print E-mail
Monday, 14 November 2005

KHRP supports the Special Representative of the Secretary-General in Iraq (SRSG), Ashraf Jehangir Qazi, in condemning the violent attack against two defence lawyers to the Special Iraqi Criminal Tribunal.  Trial defence lawyer Adel Mohammed al-Zubeidi was fatally wounded in the attack and his colleague, Thamer Hammoud Hadi, was wounded.

Another defence lawyer, Saadun al-Janabi, was kidnapped and killed by his kidnappers on 20 October 2005.  KHRP is concerned that continued attacks could undermine Iraq's attempts at conducting its juridical process in an impartial manner which is consistent with international practice. KHRP stresses that immediate action has to be taken by the Iraqi authorities to find the attackers and implement an adequate level of security in the region.
