KHRP is pleased to announce a new vacancy for an Assistant to the Executive Director (Full Time).

This role offers an amazing opportunity to support the Co-Founder and Executive Director of an independent, non-political human rights organisation dedicated to the promotion and protection of the human rights of all persons in the Kurdish regions of Turkey, Iraq, Iran, Syria and elsewhere. KHRP pioneered bringing the individual petition before the European Court of Human Rights. KHRP is a registered charity founded in London in 1992 working with its partner organisations in the regions. It functions as a catalyst for justice through its analysis, advocacy and action.

KHRP Welcomes Decision not to Close Turkish Ruling Party but Warns of Lasting Impact of Case Print E-mail

KHRP welcomes the decision by Turkey’s Constitutional Court not to ban the ruling Adalet ve Kalkınma Partisi (Justice and Development Party, AKP), which prosecutors had accused of threatening Turkey’s secular political system. But the court’s decision, which included halving treasury funding to the AKP as a ‘serious warning’ over alleged ‘anti-secular activities’, still stands to have a grave impact on political representation in the country.

The Constitutional Court previously came into conflict with the AKP earlier this year when its judges overturned a government decision to lift a ban on female students wearing hijab on university campuses. In the latest case, six judges voted in favour of banning the party, just one short of the majority of seven needed in order to implement such a ban.

KHRP is pleased to announce the publication of its latest fact-finding mission report on the human rights situation in Kurdistan, Iraq, and the role of international actors there.

A Fact-Finding Mission in Kurdistan, Iraq: Gaps in the Human Rights Infrastructure includes a timely discussion of the humanitarian impact of ongoing bombardments by the Turkish and Iranian militaries into Iraqi territory with the tacit approval of the United States and others in the international community. It further highlights the long-term struggles faced by people living in the Kurdish regions of Iraq as a result of their ethnic, cultural and linguistic heritage. The legacy of the Baathist regime and the political sensitivity of supporting development in these areas have meant that a part of the country that could be thriving instead remains in a precarious position with its citizens vulnerable to violations of their basic rights.

KHRP Condemns Istanbul Bombings and Calls for Full Investigation Print E-mail

KHRP condemns the twin bombings in Istanbul on 27 July and urges the Turkish authorities and the international community to ensure that the incident is fully investigated. 

The bombs reportedly exploded about ten minutes apart at around 10pm local time in the residential Gungoren area, killing at least 17 people and injuring some 150.
